Troulbe Starting '99 Camry

It's got like 115K something miles on it, and I just got the oil changed two weeks ago. It just started happening Saturday after I went out to eat. I couldn't get the engine started, so I had to get my dad to help me get it started. He put his foot on the gas, and then it started.

When I try to start it, it makes the starting noise. Each time it's different. Sometime it will go, then the RPMs drop like bricks. Sometimes it will just try to start, and then die. Then sometimes it will actually start. My dad said the fuel injectors might have stuff in it.

I was thinking of taking it to the dealer, but I don't feel like waiting there for 5 hours. Is there like somekind of additive I could put in the gas tank to get rid of this problem?

If you need to use the gas pedal to start the car could be the MAF/MAP sensor (not cheap) or IAC valve. Might be able to clean them it using something like Seafoam, do a history search on Seafoam.

Download the service info for the generation of car from the link below. The manual has a diagnostic section that will explain in detail how to test each part.

It will sometimes start without it, but most of the times, I need to like press it a little to get it started.

Download the Gen_4 Diagnostics info from the link provided. You will then be able to use a voltmeter to check the components. The cleaning of the parts has been covered in past TN posts, do a history search. Might also try running some Seafoam through the vacuum hose to the brake booster. There is a recent post that linked to a video covering this task.
