9005 to 9006 Harness Question

Okay, so I decided to modify my low beams into 9005 bulbs since 9006 bulb beams dont go as far as highs. Since a 9005 bulb = 65W and 9006 = 55W which is a 10W difference, do you need to upgrade your harness so the 9005 wouldn't burn the stock lowbeam harnees? Also, if I did 9005 conversion, which side of the headlight socket do I put it in, the current high beam [inner], the current high beam socket[outer] or it doesnt matter?

no, it won't melt your harness, but it often does melt the bulb uolder though, so becareful of that. one of the reasons beyond the higher wattage that makes it do that is because once modified, the 9005 bulb doesn't sit as tight in the 9006 bulb holder as it should and moves around a bit

the best way is to buy a 9005 harness, cut off your 9006 harness and splice it in

and keep the high/low bulbs where they are supposed to be

3rd Generation

If you're looking for a yes or no answer and do not plan on ever needing to put a 9006 bulb back in (AND are capable of correctly splicing in the wires) then yes get the correct harness and do the job right.

And by splicing I mean actually soldering the wires together correctly (I actually cheat and use a non-insulated butt connector with solder and then heat shrink that), not using the cheapo insulated butt connectors that are sold in sets of a million for like three bucks somewhere.

I did it without changing anything and it was fine, but I'd check with others just to make sure...

I guess i'll just buy a pair of 9005 bulbs since I dont like the stock ones [yellow] and modify the o-rings and such and plug into current stock lowbeam harness.

That's what I did and it's working fine. I rarely turn my lows off.

Damn, i'm stuck again.....which 9005 bulb would you guys prefer, luminics titanium white or sylvania silverstars? luminics titanium white provides a close color to real HID, but bad brightness output while sylvania silverstars are the opposite, good brightness but color is close to stock...

I was reading this off scionlife forums and here are some comparision pics..

9006 stock vs 9005 silverstars

luminics 9005 vs luminics 9006 (more white than pic)

silverstars 9005

as you can from the stock vs silverstars, they pretty much look the same in the pic, but of course in real life theres a difference....does silverstars output color look like a 4300k HID or does the color look like stock but little whiter?
