3rd & 4th Generation (1992–1996 & 1997–2001)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 1992-1996 & 1997-2001
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
Has anyone ever painted their gold Camry emblems. I have a 95 XLE with the gold emblems, but I don't really care for the gold, plus, they didn't make all the emblems gold. The XLE V6 is gold, and the toyota emblem is gold, but the C A M R Y emblems are chrome.
I'd like to make them all match, but I'm wondering how well they hold paint because the owner's manual I got with the car claims that the gold emblems are actually coated with real gold. Found that hard to believe, but that's what it said.
Anyway, if anyone has successfully painted these and had them hold up well, I'd appreciate knowing it.
Alternatively, I'm thinking of just shaving the emblems altogether, but since the car is 12 years old I'm not confident in how "clean" they'll come off. I removed a dealer emblem from the trunk lid, and it came off really clean, i.e. there's no goo left, but you can still see where the emblem was because it left an imprint on the paint from being there so long.
i have spray-painted them with a metallic gold, but that has worn down in the last 3 years so i do not recommend just a standard spray paint - others may suggest differently

definatly not gold...i would have an entire pile of them in a saftey deposit box if they were i painedt over mine but with black, after a year it started to chip and i repainted it. its gonna be really hard to match the same finish of the chrome if u try to do it ur self. my advice is to paint them all or remove the part u dont like.
The emblems are 24ct gold "plate", OEM..mine lasted 11 years and still looked pretty good! I found chrome CAMRY letters on Ebay for 99 cents, and was planning on keeping the OEM Gold, and painting the chrome ones, but the R was cracked and I decided to paint the Gold R black instead, I also painted the grille "T" black! I used KRYLON FUSION for plastic...so far so good, they made it through the Noreaster this weekend!...There's a pic of the painted emblems, 2nd page in the in the thread link!
I have plenty of EMBLEMS!!! LOL

Shave them off man, i think it looks better with no emblom at all. You will have a few small holes in your trunk if you dont get them filled but from a distance IMO its way cleaner of a look... Just blow dry them emblom for like 5 minutes to heat up the glue holding it on, then use dental floss to gradually get between the emblom and your trunk. Then you can use some bug and tar remover to get rid of all the gunk.. Just my .02 cents

The Camry letters have pegs as does the "T" ....you'll need something stronger than dental floss to get em off....I used 80lb test fishing line and broke a few pieces....also wear gloves, cause I bout cut my fingers off at the beginning of the removal!!

Wierd... I used dnetal floss and it worked ha, when you heat it up with the hair dryer, it warms the glue and its easier to get through it, then you can get the letter out. I didnt go at it like a mad man, some things take patience!
