Lightbulb Port and Polish

Ok, obviously the 1MZ-FE and 5S-FE aren't beasts, my question is how many HP could be squezzed out of a P&P? I've heard that the 5S has horrible engine flow so I was thinking that coupled with a Intake, header, exhaust, plug/wires (performance), a lightweight crank pulley and flywheel that I could could gain a good amount because of the better flow cpoupled with the upgrades.

So any thoughts, half-thought ideas etc. would help me get some ideas on the matter.

??? Where, where, where???

And where I ask, where Rdizzle would I get these cams, seriously a rough idle like a musclecar would be sweet on top of the other mods. I have never even heard of them, Rippmod headers and the supercharger are hard enough to get let alone find one.

That sounds awesome. How much work is involved in installing two new cams? I think it's two because the 5SFE is DOHC, right?

Cool

Not alot. Valve cover gasket + timing belt + remove bearing caps & cams. 5-10 minutes more work than a valve cover gasket if you keep your existing timing belt & water pump.

Power? Depends on what you're going for, and what work you do. The short side radious, unshrouding the valves & fixing the bowl are the major points.
The porting has as much to do with what the shape of your powerband as your cams. They compliment each other 100%. (They're each 50% of the equation). Stock porting on the v6's is much more than large enough in physical size. They just need tweaking.

20-30bhp on the v6, or 45-50ft-lbs of torque down low if you fill the ports closed to what their optimal shape would be for a very low rpm powerband. Take your pick.

3rd Generation

With the aftermarket cams, what is the estimated gain in HP and TQ? Is it really worth the $600++ investment, or could that money be better used elsewhere on the engine???

its all part of a whole. cams alone wont be worth it but with a P&P, headers, full exhaust, light drive components then yeah it might. on an engine like the 5sfe it would be worth it if u were planning on turboing it IMO. but dont expect that "muscle car" sound if thats what ur doin it for. ur not going to find it in ANY 4cyl(u get close with a HO engine though). trust me, i own one.

One of my projects was a 99 Maxima SE, 3.0 V6 190HP
Mods: Stillen CAI, Unorthadox Crank Pulley, Greddy SP, Cattman Ypipe, Metallic Subtrate Cat Cov,Direct Ign, NGKBPR, Level 10 upgrade, 15 ats complites, finally ported polished it

= 1. Long hours headaches 2. $4-5K performance mods alone 3. 1/4 mile 14.85 best..
not worth it.

Bought a 97 Talon TSI Turbo AWD...
1 crushed BOV $30 + 1 $8 Boost Controler (18psi) = 1/4 13.97

Turbo or Supercharging is really the only way to get real speed.

btw. I do love going wide open throttle more on my Camry LE.."the sleeper effect."

Cool

It depends... There's a stock bottom end maxima on an automatic transmission running 12s 1/4m times N/A.

yup....Nealoc187

literally no weight on the car...no back seats, fendor lining, Braille 9.5lb battery...etc.

I just didn't want to have a piece of metal on 4 wheels to break the 13 second mark.

this can go on and on...about NA cars but I am speaking from my own experience
and not from people posting on Maxima.Org or Camry Forums etc.

my first low budget phase to get quickness on the Camry.

1. CAI $85-150
2. fresh NGKs $60
3. Full Tranny Flush T-Tech $90
4. Seafoam thru Brake Booster $6
5. BG44K in the fuel tank $10
6. Throttle Plate Cleaning $3
7. Fresh 5W-20 or Royal Purple or Amsoil 5w 30 $30
8. Light weight 11lb Rims 15x6 with 205/60-15s (60 or 55 is a good low profile) 50 series is great at the track but the load rating on the tire has to be in the 89 range.
9. Remove all Floor Mats and junk in the car, that is not used.
10. Remove Spare Tire/Jack/Metal accessories in the trunk
11. Substrate Metallic Cat coverter $60
12. 2.5 exhaust piping No resonator $45
13. TRD (ie Borla) Sport muffler $299

*you will be quick. The above mods...you will actually feel the quickness.
A. Power > increased
B. Weight > decreased (especially rotational inertia)
