3rd & 4th Generation (1992–1996 & 1997–2001)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 1992-1996 & 1997-2001
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
Best oil...there really isn't a best oil. Most major brand oils will last at least 3000 to 5000 miles. Even Chevron Supreme and Wal-Mart Super Tech will work for 3000 miles.
Use what you like.
I've used Castrol GTX, Castrol Syntec Blend, Mobil Clean 5000 and 7500, Mobil 1 Super Syn and Tri-Syn, and Chevron Supreme,
Synthetic is not required or recommended by Toyota engineers.
I used to work in Toyota engineering...
Very interesting information in your post. I'll be using Castrol GTX when I change the oil on my '95 LE.
While we're on the oil changing topic, what filters do people recommend and where to buy? How are the Toyota OEM filters? Any good place online to buy a case (ten?) at discount? Are new crush washers recommended each oil change for the oil pan drain plug?
For what it's worth I'm new to Toyotas, a relative just gave me her '95 Camry LE with 150,000 miles. I currently have a '99 Honda Accord LX and a '93 Volvo 940 wagon, which I'll probably be selling in the near future. I use Castrol GTX and Honda OEM filters on the Accord and Mobil 1 with Mann filters (high quality Volvo filter) on the 940.

I generally use Napa Gold which is a rebranded Wix filter or Purolator Pure One.
I use Mobil 1 Fully Synthetic with either Purolator PureOne or Mobil 1 oil filter....most dino and synthetic oils are fine....I have tried many oils in several different cars over the years and oils such as Mobil1, Castrol GTX, Castrol Syntec Blend, and Castrol Fully Synthetic Oil works just fine. I think that all of us as car enthusiast want the best protection for our car...which is totally understandable....but all these high quality oils that you guys have mentioned will do just fine....I mean...I have yet to see someone dino a car with different oils and see the HP difference....I mean...will there be a HP difference between a synthetic and a Dino oil....sure....but it will be very slight and will only start to occur after 3-4 k miles...which is the age after which a dino oil starts to loose it effectiveness....on the other hand....fully synthetic oil dont even start to show their true colors until the above mentioned mileage....but the bottom line is....most high quality oils let it be dino or synthetic will be just A OKAY...for your cars....unless you want to do 10 K mile Oil Change Intervals than just stick with synthetics....anyhow...thats just my 2 cents.

Vavoline High Mileage or Castrol High Mileage... I change the oil every 3 months, and use 5w30 during fall and winter, and use 10w30 during the spring and summer.
