3rd & 4th Generation (1992–1996 & 1997–2001)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 1992-1996 & 1997-2001
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
I Have A 93 Camry Se And It Is A Fun Car To Drive But, Now I Have Out Grown It And I Need More Power. I Was Thinking About Adding A Supercharger But I Can't Find It For This Motor. So I Have Three Choices, Buy A Another 3vz-fe Engine And Bore The Hell Out Of It And Custom Pipes. Find A Vvti Engine And Ripe Out Of The Car That It Is In. Or Get A None Vvti And Hook That Of With Some Machining Work. It Is A Hard Call. Because I Have The Vvt-i Engine Coming For A Customer Car And I Started To Thing About When I Drive Lexus Es300. It Has The Balls Of A Maxima. Help Please
Your problem would be that you would have to get or splice the wiring harness together and add the ecu from the donor car because the older computer couldn't even control the vvti since it doesn't even know what the hell it is.
You will want to stick with the 3vz-fe. It's one of the best iron-block V6 that toyota has ever made. Do the engine work you want done, do a port/polish, valve job, exhaust (you can buy a custom Y-pipe from Toysrme) stick with the engine you've got. It's got plenty of potential. And it produces more torque than the 1mz and 3mz do in similar RPM ranges.
Did I miss anything Toys?

What's With Capitalizing The First Letter Of Every Word? :P
Maybe I can help with this !
I am a Clinical Psychologist and we see this particular Syndrome occasionally .
We have tentatively named it the OCD w/ associated memory loss Syndrome.
This stems from the afflicted person not being able to recall reliably WHICH letters to Capitilize , so the OCD response is to put CAPS on all words . This precludes the need to remember what is correct and also relieves a lot of stress for the afflicted.
Is is either this or the respondent has been educated within the United States Public School System in the preceeding 20 year period .
These kids may not know Spelling or Grammar but for sure everything they think and say is Politically Correct !
vvt-i is neat and all, but its not worth the money and trouble to convert to it. The 3vz you have is just dying for some boost if you really want to add some power, Zoni is in your area and I bet he could help you out. Turbo the 3vz and enjoy the reliability you can get out of it

i dont mean to be rude but you seem to be doing the same with random words such as spelling and grammar. i didnt notice it until someone pointed it out now its driving me insane lol.
every first letter is capitalized because he typed it in caps and the site formatted it so we could read it without wanting to gouge our eyes out...
vvti is not an engine, several engines have it. It would cost you TONS of money to fab custom engine mounts and who knows what else, and in the end your car would be slower for it- not worth it at all whatsoever.
Out of curiosity has anyone looked at the 2GR? I'm curious if it would mate to an older 5spd transmission.
My GF works with a lot of psychiatrists and psychologists and says most of them have their own pschological issues...Maybe this is just a manifestation of something he is dealing with, or ignoring .

They both do, they're both very large, and there is a prohibative amount of wiring to do.

for anything, anytime; including camry turbos Now with Turbo!
You don't want more power, you want more power to weight. VVT-i will likely only improve low end power and efficiency. Go buy yourself a rwd turbo dodge and have fun with the obscene torque those can make. Leave the Camry as your nice dd. It'll probably be cheaper and faster than if you throw cash at the Camry anyhoo...

When all you have is a hammer, everything looks like a nail.

Ok, the harlequin, VVT-i is toyota's take-off version of VTEC so no, it makes more power in the higher RPM's because it alters the camshafts lift, duration etc. It's basically like you top your car out, but wait you hit 6000 RPM and it starts taking off again.
