99 camry 3SGTE?

Everybody says how easy it is for the the 5sfe and the 3sgte to be swapped out, but some of my questions are

what about emissions, what happens when you go from OBD1 to OBDII?

Does the A140E AUTO TRANNY MATCH UP with the 3sgte?

If I try to drop the 3sgte cyl head on the 5sfe block would have have to get the 3sgte wiring harnes and ecu?

should I just boost the 5sfe? no more than 7 - 9 on stock internals?

ALSO REMEMBER COLLEGE PARK TUNING IS HOLD A MEET APRIL 29, FROM NOON TO SUNSET SO PLEAE COME OUT AND SUPPORT!!!!

1. You have a 99 camry, how would you be going from OBDI to OBDII, you're already OBDII? Besides, if you swap an engine you have to swap the ECU too, thus whatever motor you pick, it's ECU will decide whether you are OBDI or OBDII

2.The A140 Auto will probably fit, but it's not going to hold up to the extra power for long in stock trim. If you must stay Auto, upgrade your auto.

3. If you mated the 3SGTE Head to the 5SFE block you would need the ECU and wiring harness for the 3SGTE (since you would need to combine the 3SGTE and 5SFE harnesses).

4. The 3SGTE head's oil and water passages won't line up with the ones on your 5SFE block. IIRC only the Early 5SFE's matched up fairly well (i'd talk to Wraith on that though).

5. As Far as boosting the 5SFE...That is your choice. The 3SGTE has much more aftermarket Support, but the swap will cost you a pretty penny (think 6-10K) unless you can do the work yourself. Just the 3SGTE alone usually sells for around $1000-1500 or more. Not to say you couldn't get a better deal, just saying you might want to know more about what you're getting yourself into.

u might want to consider the 1mz swap. it would be cheaper but of course less after market support. the question is how much power u tryin to get? if ur lookin for a descent gain then turbo the 5s but if u want somthing like 250whp+ then id go with the 3sgte or the 1mz+S/C route. either way ur gonna want to swap in a manual to take full advantage of all the work ud put into it. also i believe the low end of the 5s isnt as strong as the 3s, if ur gonna put that much power on u prolly want to just swap a whole motor.

CPT

you MD people better show up, im tired of talking to the ONE other person, usually a redneck, with a muscle car that ends up commin.

For what you spend swapping you could:

1. Do a full 5SFE Build and a Proper Tune so it doesn't blow up
2. Sell your car and buy a V6 camry that has more power, torque and potential Stock.
3. Sell your camry completely and buy a faster car.

Now i would go either the number 1 or number 2 routes, but being unique isn't for everyone.

BTW i plan on being there next sunday, so hopefully i'll see you all.

Makes the most since.
An A140 will NOT mate to the e series transmissions, nor with the bellhousings for the e series's interchange directly to the A140. You could do a hybrid v6 transaxle if you wanted, but that'd also be a first.

a buddy of mine is selling his spare 2nd gen mr2 cyl head , and I want to get it but when I looked up the head gasket it was a different head gasket from the one for my 5sfe cyl head, so how are people doing this swap if the head doesn't ,match up with the block?

94 and earlier 5S-FE's have the same water passages etc as the 3S-GTE, so in theory the head bolts right up. On those motors bolting the head up is the easiest part of your job.

yeah swapping the motor is what most people do but if your able to get the 3sgte head on the 5sfe block than you'll have a turbo head on a block that has more displacement!!! this more power is born!!!

Well I guess my dream dream to get a 3sgte cyl head on my 5sfe block has been offically ruled out! I say this because I got both head gaskets and while most of the holes line up its not 100% the same, I was looking into putting a 2nd gen mr2 head out of a 92. any ideas does any body know if the ones from japan made in 92 will match up?
