Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
Ok so i got my camry back from the shop... They said the fuse isnt blowing anymore and the sputtering was from a loose injector wire! DOH! luckily they didnt charge me to plug it back in
BUT
They want 800 to replace my rear rotors, brakes, and front left stabilizer link and I think 2 new tires and alignment...
Is that a decent price? Can I do the work myself?
Or I may buy the parts and have them install it....
what do you guys think

brake job at sears or some other place: $250 approx
new stabilizer link: $50; very easy install
4 new decent quality tires (eg. Bridgestone Potenzas from TrireRack.com) : $350-?? installed and balanced, go to Sam's or costco for this
4 wheel alignment: $65, go to Sears or Big'O'Tires or something similar
I ask myself the same thing tons of times. But usually what happens is I research whatever im doing before i do it. After I understand it I tackle it.
But i'm learning as I go. with the help of books, hands on experience and help from friends and of course TN.
This is how I learn. I take it apart and put it back together. If it breaks, I try again or have someone fix it for me and learn from that.
The fuel injector was a lesson careful troubleshooting...
As far as the turbo goes... if something breaks I'm gonna have to learn how to fix it and troubleshoot it.
I dont claim to know the specifics of my turbo setup but I'm pretty sure by the end of the project i will know the turbo system inside out and be able to tune it. (not expertly)
Same goes for the electronics in my car. I didnt know anything about fiberglassing, subs, amps, or electricity for that matter.
Dunno if that made sense lol.

^ that sounds good enough to me....you're just lucky that you have another car to drive while you're working on your camry....otherwise you wouldn't make it sound so easy

Thats the thing, I dont have another car The other camry has been dead for about a week now. I already started ripping out the motor and stuff.
Toyo: Yea ive got the haynes manual and I downloaded the manuals off the FAQ section as well.
Turbo is easy enough if you have the know-how and resources... I learned a lot from reading the forums, the book maximum boost and talking with tony, eye8, rdizzle, my friend travis, and of course toys.
The only part i know nothing about is tuning, but that will change soon enough...

Don't let them rip you off on brakes. I got screwed for a simple brake job to the tune of 500 bucks. Its a pretty simple DIY, just gets your hands dirty (P.S. Never go to WALTS.)
So when do you fire this sucker up?

Everything is moved out of the way already. Im trying to start work on the swap while my buddy mounts up the turbo on some brackets so we can test fit and map out the pipes.
After that we're gonna order the pipes and mock it up. After that some cutting and welding. and then im gonna finish the manual swap. Its a shit load of work but i think another month and it will be ready or at least close to ready.
I just wish the weather would cooperate... its been a really big factor...
Tomorrow ill probably have some time to get rid of that cruise control. and keep searching for that damn short thats fucking up my tails.

lol I think I got you confused... I have 2 cars... The white one is the one im doing the work on I still drive the white camry, I've had it for 6 years now
the parts car aka the black camry is the one I bought off my friend for 200 bucks... That one used to run. But it recently died. thats the one im stripping for parts
theres going to be a week where i wont be able to drive while im doing the tranny swap.
Then another week or two where ill be tuning the turbo.

800 is too much, but you know you could get the same amount if not more sound from Kicker 12's with a Kicker amp, and also save a good deal of weight b/c those 15's look really hefty and the Kicker 12' is relatively leightweight for its sound output.
