how to spot a vacuum leak?....help

Okay, so the whole idle situation IS a vacuum leak, I am convinced of this. The plugs have been changed out, new gas has been added (burned the old stuff off), and the exhaust has no leaks anywhere on it. which leads me to agree that it is a vacuum leak, only I don't know where or what to look for (I admit on that part of a car I am a N00b) any help or ideas would be great....thanks

Use WD-40 or carb cleaner to spray around gaskets, etc. and listen for increase in idle rpm. Also could use a length of vacuum hose - one end in your ear the other poked around the vac hoses. Maybe a mechanics stethescope, but I have found those too sensitive. For vac leaks I take the probe off and use a bit of vac hose in its place. For tough to find leaks you could take it to a shop with a smoke machine.

use a can of throttlebody cleaner and spray it around all your hoses, etc....if the engine revs, then you have a vacuum leak

from the sounds of the way your engine is running, it sounds like a pretty massive one too, so check all hoses first (for ones disconnected) after that, check your big/common gaskets- throttlebody, intake plenum, egr, etc.
