HID's melting housing?

Has anyone in here with their HID's installed ever had any problems with their headlight housings catching on fire or melting. Apparently its a common problem after swapping a non HID car over to HID headlights. A friend of mine has an older BMW M3 and they told him he has to buy the headlight housings off the Euro version because they are made of glass instead of plastic and can handle the extra heat. Any constructive responses will be greatly appreciated.

I've had the HID kits in my car for almost a month now, I use them alot, turn them on and off alot, and nothing has happened. The lens gets warm, but it did with halogens as well.

that melting crap is false, as long as you have composite housing which most headlights are, I wish I could find a link but someone of the Civic forum had the same questiong and tested it and the HiD actually run a couple of degrees cooler than your average halogen.

Good deal. Just asking im at an auto tech school right now and im in my 3rd advanced electric class and it was actually my teacher who told me it could melt the housing. Maybe on some cars the bulbs sit close enough to the lens to melt it cause i know my buddys BMW he has talked to alot of guys who had their housings melt on them. Thanks for the quick replies though, i appreciate it.

I've had HID's in my Camry since 2002, no melting of the housing.

You have to be careful when buying aftermarket HID's as some are SHIT...
