3rd & 4th Generation (1992–1996 & 1997–2001)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 1992-1996 & 1997-2001
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
Well this is partially my fault, but you assume when you purchase something new that it isn't going to be junk. Last year I purchased a set of 18" Flaken Hanabi rims with Cooper tire for my wife's '99 camry. I put them on, and drove the summer. This year when I put them on, I rotated them first from where they were last year. Now there is a vibration in the steering wheel. It turns out one of the wheels not only wasn't balanced properly to start with, but the rim its self is also out of round. I don't believe I bent it and neither does the person at the tire shop I took it in to.
So I called Edge Racing where I purchase the wheel set from. They are unwilling to help in any way. I told them my situation, but all they said is that wheels are only cover for 30 days.
SO MY SUGGESTION IF YOU ORDER NEW WHEELS PUT THEM ON FOR A WEEK, AND THEN ROTATE THEM RIGHT AWAY. MAKE SURE ALL THE WHEELS SEE A FRONT AND REAR LOCATION ON THE VEHICLE. IF THERE IS A PROBLEM YOU WOULD BE ABLE TO TELL RIGHT AWAY!
I never thought to do this, but now I know, I assumed they where all perfect. Edge Racing claims they check for all of this, but I'm skeptical. I was told if the machine they balance on isn't set up right there can be errors.
Just my 2 cents I don't want to see this happen to anyone else.
hmm.. thats weird. i bought i set of enkei's from them in late feb./early march. On a drive, i was making a left turn and the front wheel hit a pothole. The tire blew and the wheel bent. I dont think i was going that fast, but i was high, so whatever, i bought a new wheel. when i went to pick it up (i live in miami, so i went to the warehouse), and before balancing, the guy asks if it will be mounted on the driver's side or passenger's side.. i thought it was weird, but didnt question his inquiry as i am kinda ignorant to the process... maybe it has something to do with your case. let me know how it goes, they might just owe me $211 for the extra wheel/tire i had to buy.
your gonna get what u pay for, cheap wheels are either "cheap" wheels or used wheels. i just bought some cheap wheels off ebay and i fully expected there to be minor problems and there were. the pic of the wheels shows a red insignia on the spoke, the wheels in actuality have a translucent sticker that u cant even see. i bought my tires from edge and they did well by me but i have herd complaints about the wheels. roumer has it that the reason there so cheap is beacuse they buy the ones that dont meet the origional manufacturers spec for far below market price. good lookin out.

My guess is that you have directional tires (look on the sidewall for an arrow - should point in the direction of travel (forwards)) and the tire guy was smart enough to ask so that he knew which way to mount the tire

FYI - Out-of-Round IS bent, its just not bent a lot, or bent in one specific area. One good pothole can easily cause a wheel to bend "out of round" - especially with really low profile tires on them - not much cushion. That's the price you pay for style... LOL!
Also, I've never heard of Edge Racing & am not affiliated with them in any way.

Well Here is what happened. I called Edge racing and talked to the manager, Alex. They were willing to give me a new rim, which I can understand, from there point they don't know me, or how I drive my car. So we both came to the same conclusion, He sold me the rim for cost plus shipping. I can live with that.
But now after reading what all of you said I don't know if I would ever order from then again. Sounds a little shady to me. And I didn't think I bought cheap rims. I got the Falken Hanabi's. Edge's pricing is comparable to most out there with the same rims. Unless they really do get rejected rims and just make that much more profit. Either way it isn't a good rumor for them. If they aren't reputable it will catch up with them in time, and if they are doing a good job, then sorry to hear people are questioning them.
Like I said I paid a fair amount for a reputable name rim, and I assume they are new and I didn't get scammed. So I expected them to be right. And if they rim did bend out of round, just on the inner lip, they that is shhitt, some one needs to make a better rim.
