Bull Sh*t

So yah, i got my motor in and running finally.
After running for about 10 minutes it starts making a knocking noise. I just figured it was because of all the fuel dumping into the oil because of the piston rings. Now i dont know if someone was trying to screw me or something but i know i double torqued ever freakin nut in that motor. But i shut the motor off, and changed the oil and everything went to start it, and it wouldnt turn. So i determined that the crank would not turn at all. The motor is locked.
I pull the oil pan off, and half of a rod and the rod cap and bot bearings are in the oil pan. Ever heard of that? I HAD GOOD OIL PRESSURE. 10 minutes on a set of new pistons and rods and i got a broken rod. I am really pissed. I AM 100% SURE THAT I TORQUED EVER F-ING NUT AND BOLT IN THAT MOTOR. So now i have to pull the head off and try to get the piston out of the block and hopefully the crank and cylinder is good then i can just swap out the rod and go from there, if not I will sell the car for $900 without the turbo. If anybody wants it, let me know u can have it as is and i will even give u an extra block.
But yah, now im scared to think of what else might come lose.

did you prime the oil pump before attempting to start it? I'm not sure about the camry oil pump, but on some cars, you usually have to pack the oil pump with vaseline or something similar to get it to prime. Sounds like that was your problem.

Did you make sure to check the clearance of the bearings using something like Plastigage before you torqued everything together? What were your clearance values?

I found out what happened. (I think)
I used someone elses torque wrench, he promised me that it was in spec. Well guess what...

It wasnt i know it wasnt an oil issue, because the nuts, bearings, and the cap were laying in the oil pan unharmed. just the bottom part of the rod was fucked.

From now on i will never trust anybody elses tools, this is mostly my fault. I thought his torque wrench felt funny. Thats the only explanation i can think of really. I cant prove that that was the problem, and i cant check his torque wrench, because he got fired... I dont know why but probably because he under torqued something lol oh well, ill figure out something i have an extra rod i may be able to use, if not i have an extra short block and an extra long block.

depending on what kind of torque wrench he had, it can't really be "out of spec"

It was the kind that you twist the bottom in, if you dont twist it all the way out after you use it, and if you use it to loosen bolts, it can.

what you said was really really confusing, especially since i've been drinking a lot of the day cause it was so damn nice out and its finals week so were all trying to relive some stress; but i think i know what you're getting at i just don't think i've ever used the kind of torque wrench you speak of; I've pretty much only ever used the one in which you torque a bolt and it bends/bows based on how much torque you apply, those kind i like simply because they'll almost never be "out of spec" unless you over-torque the bar itself which is almost impossible on a car application.

It's a click type TW and yes, they can get really out of spec if you don't go out of your way to take care of them.
