Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
Hi guys, i just got my shocks and struts replaced today, all 4 totalled me 600 bucks, plus my right front shock mount was bad so that was another 100 bucks...i was wondering...is that a bit expensive? or am i just too poor lol o and im in new york city just in case that helps with the price opinion
wow ..you're kidding me???? 600??? for a newer car then yes i understand but for an older car...that just too high.. you can buy all those for maybe like 200 or more then have some do it for 50 each side for a total of maybe close to 450 or less...save a few 100's... if you do it yourself then yes that save alot more..
hahah i wish i can have my own garage or driveway then i'll be doing everything myself...but i park out on the street and it's not exactly a good place to work on anything lol but maybe i should have done it like you said Toyota95 lol buy the parts myself then give it to the mechanic and have him install for less
very true....so i guess it's not too bad afterall....my wallet is hurting like crazy but the upside is i got my car back in under 4 hours with everything done...though i gotta take it back tmr cause they didnt have the rubber piece that goes under the shock mount so i gotta get that put in tmr
i got one more question....does changing the front shocks mess up my wheel alignment? cause on the way home i felt the car drifting to the left which it's never done before
And you should have had BOTH front mounts changed, not 1. But $600 is not bad. My struts/springs/mounts cost me more then that, but I installed myself to save $, haha. Gotta put a new TRD RSB in on Wed, WOOT!

I charge $80 per hour for any jobs I tackle. If you are in for purely cheap labour, expect quality to take shit. I am sure some highschool drop-out will help you install some shocks for minimum wage

Mounts are $100 typically, so you were fairly charged there. Labor rate is typically $80/hr these days at most places. That seems to be the standard now. I'd say give the mechanics anywhere from 2-3hrs to switch out the struts, considering they actually have to take it apart rather than replacing the entire assembly like you would if you simply got a Monroe quick strut that include springs and mounts. Price new struts at anywhere between $300-$400 for all four. Seems like you got a fair deal.

wow ...that still alot for me on just normal(stock) shocks not performance... if its performance then its a diferent story... EVEN at the shop it still cost less.. But its NEVER cheap at the DEALER... maybe it just cost more where you guys live... i think it is; like if you look at the gas price....
