Unhappy Broken Flexpipe

What are you guys doing as far as fixing or replacing these? Dealer prices are scary.

Looking for a fix thats not so hard on the wallet. I wonder if regular flexible exhaust tubing could be substituted? My V6 is kinda gutless down low (and sounds like shit), I'm hoping I can blame this power loss down low on a broken flexpipe? One of the cylinder banks has virtually no exhaust as it is completly broken in two off the manifold and I'm sure the other flexpipe is on its way...

opinions? I wonder if "exhaust tape" would work as a temporary fix?

Go to any muffler shop, have them cut it off and weld a new one in. That is all. Less than $100.

Bingo. Some things the dealership is good for, some things not so much. Actually, most things not so much.

i've replaced broken flexpipe with an aftermarket one on my 5sfe, worked perfect,
and i tried to replace the flex pipe for my 1mz when it was broken,
i did called around local muffler shops like midas, and they want $150 to cut and reweld one flex pipe, since my 94 1mz has two flexes on the y pipe, and they said if i want to cut and reweld both, looking at around $250 plus tax, so i spent $160 from ebay for an aftermarket pipe, turn out the pipe didn't sound right, has humming noise when i accelerate above 2500k, and felt weak in power, maybe the y-pipe wasn't bent within spec, so i went online at www.toyotaoemparts.com and bought a genuine oem toyota flex pipe(came with all heatshields), 3 gaskets and new bolts for $280, installed it, this time sounded right, and reclaimed the lost power, i did all the labor myself, a lot of WD40 on bolts for a week.

i've heard horror stories where toyota owners have attempts to repair the broken flex pipe at the dealer, and the dealer want to replace the entire exhaust system from exhaust manifold to the rear bumper, and rape them with $1000 +

Thanks guys, sounds like welding on a new one is is the way to go. 2.25" the right size for stock V6 flexpipe anybody know? Looks like you can find them on ebay for under $25. If I could pull the whole exhaust section out, I think I could gas weld it myself, don't think i would attempt to weld it in car without a lift though..

Be sure to ask what the price for the flex is before you go and have the work done, around here most shops want 80 bucks for a piece of $30 flex you can order off ebay

As for doing it without a lift, just be careful under there, ramps may work better than a jack and stands.

Thats why I'd like to go ahead and order one on ebay now. 2-1/4" diameter? Sorry I have no way to measure now.

Cheapest way is to cut and weld. The dealer sells the complete pipe and will charge a lot more for it.

Better measure, I'm not sure if the factory Y is a standard or odd size.
