ok my 5sfe camry isnt firing very well on any wire...they all seem to have low voltage....also the altinator is bad......are these 2 related...or is my distribitor it self bad...or just the coil and the alt

i know the alt is bad cause when i disconected the battery with engine running and turned the lights on....everything went dim and shut off

Of course your alternator and your spark are going to have some sort of major correlation! Well... if you know your alternator is bad, why not replace that and then start working from there... just an alternator may fix your problem.

Umm of course if you disconect the battery everything is going to get dim and shut off. It is because the alternator doesn't produce volts it just charges up the battery to have more volts. To get a bttery you have to have electrolyte. You can basically make a battery yourself all you have to do is get some coins a piece of paper and spit on it and if you put a volt meter to it you will have some voltage. Now an alternator doesn't have any electrolyte and so it can not be a battery and therefore you need the battery to run the lights and all your accesorys and and electrals in the engine. That is why when your alternator does go out it dies and you have to charge up the battery along with replacing the alternator because the alternator drained the voltage out of the battery. So if your alternator is out you will notice it is draining the battery or not charging it back up when the engine is running. As for your spare problem. How do you know you have low voltage on the spark? I am jsut curious to know how. Did you hook it up to an oscillioscope? If you did then that will tell you where you problem is in your ignition system. If you are just grounding out the wire and looking at the spark you can't really tell how much voltage it has. If you truly beleive that your spark is bad and it is in all wires then check your coil or check your distributor rotor and cap that could also be the problem. Your last check is the distributor but I doubt that is the problem.
