Question Engine Noise Coming from 5S-FE Lower Timing Belt Cover

Hello,

I have a 1995 Gen 3 5S-FE 220,000kms

Lately I've been hearing a squeeling from the engine. Only when the engine is warm and when it is below 1000rpm's. The sound is sourced from the lower timing belt cover.

Otherwise, the engine runs wonderfully, I am just really annoyed with this annying sound at warm idle.

If you have any idea of the cause of this sound, and a remedy for the problem, I really appreciate it.

Thanks

When was your last timing belt change and what was replaced at that time. Things behind lower timing belt cover - idler pulley, water pump pulley, oil pump pulley (I doubt it's the oil pump).

Does it sound like a belt squealing? Check belt tightness including the PS belt.

Hey guys. So I spent a little time with my vaccuum hose stethascope, and I am sure the sound is coming from my new UR underdrive crank pulley.

I'm frustrated to think it's the pulley/belt because I installed 2 brand new Gates belts with the UR pulley. I have tensioned the belts as per the Hanes Manual.

Could this just be something that will work out with the belt's age?

when did you install the current belt? sometimes a new belt makes noise for a good 1000Km or so before it quiets down

You could try some belt dressing and see if that quiets the belt. Undersize pulley - could reduced rpm be causing noise?

I Installed my UR underdrive pulley with 2 new accesory belts about 3 weeks ago.

So the belt have about 1000kms on them.

I'll wait it out, and perhaps try some belt dressing soon. It would be a shame to mess up a clean polished pulley with belt dressing though

Thanks for the advice gents.
