possible blown head gasket

Leaving work, engine stated to make klanking sounds about a mile out and the engine stopped. There was oil and water all over the ground. my question is do i need a new engine or can I just fix the blown gasket? Maybe I will roll it into a ditch, that would be more fun.

What engine, and how much oil/water

sounds like you might have thrown a rod through your block, look for holes... big ones.

I do not know the code but it is a 2.2 from a 99 LE. It is at the machanic right now. how much would you pay for a new engine/haed gasket? "thrown a rod" are these engines prone to throwing rods? I am disapointed in toyota. I have kept up with regular miantenance. Will keep posted.

Ok, good by blue monday, already have the car back. turns out that the water pump broke causing the timing belt to fall apart. I was charged $300 for new water pump and timing belt.

Glad the car is back running and cheaply. This was a good price for that work by an honest mechanic. You might want to let others know who that mechanic is.

Incidently, the liquid you saw was simply coolant leaking when the water pump went out. There was no oil coming out.

The EXACT same thing happened to my nephew. He owns a 99 camry also. He also had to replace the water pump.
