1994 Camry AT tranny problem

hey i don't know if any of you have advise,
but my 1994 camry xle has ben having
tranny problems.

the symptoms are:
-transmission slips at random moments
by slipping i mean the transmission just
"lets go" and the engine free revs.

-it seems to come and go very inconsistently.

What should be replaced, or changed?
thanks again.

Have you checked the transmission fluid level? It might be low.

How many miles? And how low was the transmission fluid?

You may consider doing a flush. Get a transmission fluid funnel, a 3/8" ID clear rubber hose (about six feet or so) a few gallon milk jugs, and eight or nine quarts of transmission fluid. Disconnect the hose from the transmission to the radiator (the right one as you are looking towards the engine, not the left one, trust me on this one) and slip the 3/8" ID hose onto it. Put the other end in the milk jug. Put the funnel in the transmission fluid check tube and have a couple quarts of fluid ready with the caps off. Start the car. As fluid is coming out be adding fluid, when the fluid coming through the hose looks "new" stop the car. At this point you should have two pretty full milk jugs and seven or eight empty transmission fluid bottles. Reconect the transmission to the radiator and take it for a drive. After five miles or so (when it's warm) check the transmission fluid level while on a flat surface. I just did this yesterday on my '95 LE.

Edited to add: I forgot to mention, at some point during the flush and with your foot on the brake, put your car into each gear for a short period of time (I did it for about five seconds per gear). I've got some pictures of my fluid change, I'll post them as soon as I download them to my computer. The cost is about $4 per quart of ATF (so about $35 after tax), $2 for a funnel, and about $2 for the hose (sold by the foot in your local hardware store). Make sure it's a clear hose because you want to observe the fluid as it flows through so you know when it's "clean". And as far as how difficult the job is, it is on par with an oil change.

I agree with the flush idea first. If that does not work try this - http://www.transmaticsc.com/
Has worked 2 out of two times for me on different vehicles. I usually don't like or promote additives but for about $30 to avoid expensive trans repair it's not a bad try.
