3rd & 4th Generation (1992–1996 & 1997–2001)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 1992-1996 & 1997-2001
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
So I hop in my car (1999) after class at my university parking garage and stick the key in and go to roll the windows down and crank the car up. The front windows go down only about 80 % of the way and the rears hardly 50%. The motorr cranks and runs fine but I realize I don't hear the electric window motors continuing to whine and pull the glass down into the door. I go WTF and push down on the cluster of all 4 window controls and the front windows finaly get all the way down with some effort but the rears are still WAY up and only partly down. I can't get the front to come up or the rears to go down or up. I went around to each door and pushed each window button up and down and nothing. The drivers locks control doesn't work either but the passenger lock control works fine. No Idea where this problem came from, wasn't hesitating or being troublesome before. Any People with similar experiences that got em fix'd or just have Ideas spit em out. Taking it to a very good shop shortly but would be nice to have ideas. Thanks.

Thought it might be something like that b/c there was nothing immediatley visiually wrong, like I hadn't spilled liquid down in there or anything to short em out so I was kinda thinkin something broke off or wore out down in the guts of the door or front part of the cabin. Mind my asking how my you paid to get em fix'd?

Got it all sorted out. Pulled back out the garage into the fading evening light and remembered I'd had my stereo system "upgraded" some what recently. Apparently the drivers windows and locks control are master and split off to the other doors. The drivers button panel needs to come off for the stuff I had done and when they put it back the connection was yanked back out partly and it finally totally wiggled out when i sat down in my car. So with that connection carefully redone and the panel put back into the door handle it works good as new. Alls good. Admins may close / delete @ will.
PS Stay the heck away from SONY and Dual audio gear from places like Best Buy and Circuit City. Shell'd out 360 or something plus 200 in gift cards and the OEM system WITH the skipping CD player beat the piss out of the stuff I have now (Sony xplode head unit and dual speakers). It looses signal inbetween building, has no reliablity at all on any day, and sound quality is non existant. Definetly not going to pull it to keep it when I sell car. IT SUCKS. That is all.
here is how to troubleshoot it. i checked the wires in the black plastic loom between the door and the fender part of the car by the a pillar. there are wires that are joined and black taped but they seem fine. and i could not see a flasher behind the ashtray, maybe there is one, but i'd have to take off the plastic around the center console, so i disconnected the master window controls from the drivers side door and what do you know, the alarm was working fine again. so the controls are defective, the unit. i'll pick one up somewhere. do you think that i caused it to stop working yesterday when i changed the alarm bypass switch by the kickpanel? i also pushed the controls down a little, by hand with force, cuz it was sticking up a bit. thanks.
