3rd & 4th Generation (19921996 & 19972001)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 1992-1996 & 1997-2001
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
I sold my SAFC because i wanted a Greddy E-manage Ultimate for tuning. I didn't like the fact that the SAFC couldn't control timing. I decided to go with the e-manage so i wouldn't have to buy an MSD BTM or similar and tune two different devices.

SMT6. Cheaper than an emanage & does more.
<- doesn't like SAFC's. Low price is good, but they don't do a particularly great job.

for anything, anytime; including camry turbos Now with Turbo!
why would you have to by an MSD BTM? how could I control timing on my car without moving the belts and adjusting the cams? futher more how could timing be changed if esp that the 5sfe has a single cam gear for the intake and the exhaust runs as a slave off the intake wouldn't the exhaust cam have to be taken out and adjusted to advance??? I'm trying to boost my 5sfe safely!!!!! I plan on putting on the comptech headgasket which will drop compression and then slapping on a ct26 which I already have. but I know I will need a tool to adjust air to fuel. What else is need with the the purchase of the e-manage blue? do I absolutely need a wideband or does it read through my 02 sensors? I'm sorry for asking so nmany questions at once!
well I'm trying to figure out what would be best for me, given that I've started gathering partts for to boost my 5sfe with a ct26 turbo. I know I'm going to need one would the e-manage blue be to advance for the setup I want? will the SAFC2 give me enough room for improvement?
while checking prices for both the e-manage and the safc2, the e-mange is like 100 bucks more, given that I won't push the psi past 7, is it worth it to spend the extra money for the e-manage?
Megamac. Yes. We said the e-manage was better already. Taking shortcuts when boosting will get you one thing, a blown motor. Regardless of whether you get the E-manage or SAFC some kind of timing controller is HIGHLY recommended. Every camry tuner who has taken shortcuts or cheaped out on something while attempting to boost has been bitten by it. Taking shortcuts when building up a car is almost a guarantee of failure. Often a catastrophic failure. In this hobby of ours you have to pay to play.
