Lightbulb Transmission oil fill?

Drained the transmission oil and differential oil.

Filled the differential oil up, no prob... but

Where is the A/T oil fill on the 1995 2.2L 4cyl?

Is it the 14mm hollow-bolt with on the top rear of the tranny? It has a metal cover with a small spring and block off plate inside that fits over the top of the hollow-bolt.

I'm not to keen on trannys. Pretty good on everything else tho. lol. Never torn down a tranny. I guess that's why.

THANKS

Really? I mean that was gonna be my last resort, but I thought surely there was a fill on the side of the tranny some where... only it's not. Only for the differential.

So the only way to fill the A/T is thru the dipstick tube?

This will be my first time changing A/T fluid come to think of it... I've been working on my own cars about 7 years but I've never owned an A/T! lol.

Yes, that is correct, you fill the transmission through the dipstick tube.

it doesnt take too long. its through the dipstick. Some of the tranny's do have a separate plug on the side of the pan to fill or to check levels, but being horizontally positioned, doesnt help with the fill process unless you have a transmission flushing machine.

Through the AT check tube, and when you buy the fluid, pick up a funnel. They sell funnels specially designed to fit, they only cost $2 or so.

Be careful filling it up, it tends to overflow....fill it slow....or else get some rags...you will be wiping spilled cherry fluid.

Speaking of filling up a differential oil, what is a best way to fill it up? I have 97 Camry 4 cylinder(automatic) and fill plug is on a side. Do I need to get a oil pump?
Thanks.

If i remember my haynes manual, the 97 is shared trans/diff. So you just need to fill the fluid through the transmission dipstick like normal.

For filling the diff, get a funnel with a very long flexible snout.

And when you're getting close, give it time to drain down before checking or you'll think it's full before it is.

I attached a barb fitting and a piece of 3/8" ID PVC hose to a funnel and ran the hose down to the diff fill hole from the top of the engine bay.
