2000 camry 5sfe wont start diagnosis

I was just cruising down the street coming back from school when my car just suddenly dies. they power stayed on but engine just died on me. The timing belt is fine, alternator, and battery is fine. I didnt check for spark yet to see if its an ignition problem. My fuses seem fine also. This happened to me in my 93 camry and I replaced the distrubutor and it started right up, but on the 2000 5sfe where do i point to for problems if there is no dizzy. I'm thinking crankshaft sensor but I want to know what other people think

thanks

I wouldn't just go throwing parts at the car until you know what the problem is. What happens when you try to try to crank it - it just cranks but doesn't fire?

First thing to do is check for spark, next thing to do is check for the fuel pump running. Once you find out, which side the problem is on, report back and we can help out more.

what do you mean throwing parts at it? I knew it was the distributor on the 93 camry becasue I wasn't getting any spark and the ohm readings were very low compard to the readings from the manual.

I'm going to check for spark today. I let you know what's up. Thanks for the help

On your 93, was it possible to replace the coil without replacing the distributor?

ok a little update just in case this happens to anybody else. I had time this weekend to really diagnose the problem and I went down the trouble tree. no spark, wires are fine, but the resistance on my igniton coil, 1&4, was not reading the right resistance. my camshaft and crankshaft sensor are fine also so hopefully this 90 dollar part will be all there is to it.

Sorry, i'm not sure. I got a good price on rebuilt distrubutor and I just popped it back in. I would just replace the whole assembly.

Update: I'm out of school now so I have a little more time between work hours. I replaced the ignitor coil because it went bad and also replaced my spark plug wires because one of the tips broke off into the ignitor which probably caused it to go bad in the first place.

The car still won't start. camshaft sensor, crankshaft sensor, wires, ignitors, fuel delivery is all fine. I'm still not getting any spark though. If my timing happened to jump a tooth or more, would this cause the no spark issue? I'm guessing not but maybe.

Also I tried to read the voltage on my ecm for terminal E7-1 which should always have constant voltage even when the car is off but I'm not reading anything. So i need some suggestions.

edit: forgot to add that all fuses are ok unless i'm missing something

thanks for your time guys

You say you've checked your fuses .... Have you checked your ground connections? .... Like that snap connector tha runs through the top engine mount. ... and also take a look at the actual ground points where the ground wires bolt onto the chassis. No oil, grease, or corrosion is allowed here. .... Can you get any check engine code diagnosis at this time?

yes theres two of them. and my ground to the chassis is fine. I'm wondering would that cause no spark?

I even put the Snap On reader to it and it won't even get a connection.
I'm going to double check everything but I'm still wondering why I have no constant voltage at my ecm. Thanks for the help though

Download the service manual at the link below and run through the diagnostic sections.
