Could be it is need of maintenance, Fuel filter, new spark plugs, new oil/fluids and yes depending on the A/C you can use a lot, also air filter and clean the throttle body, it's an old V6 so don't expect great MGP but that is wierd, probably just needs some good ol'routine maintenance.

Tune up (plugs, PCV valve, air & fuel filters, clean throttle body), tire pressure (make sure its all even) and front oxygen sensors. O2 sensors control your air/fuel ratio and when they get old, their response gets slow which causes lower MPG (on my Maxima, I went from 15-17mpg range to 18-21mpg range after changing my front O2 sensors and my mom's 4cyl Camry went up by 3mpg after changing the front O2 sensor)

NGK V-Power copper plugs are good

I personally have a '95 4 banger, but I saw a jump in my gas milage when I replaced my spark plugs(NGK Iridium IX), spark plug wires (NGK), distributor cap/rotor(Denso), and ingnition coil(Denso). Also insure that you have a clean air filter and fuel filter. And as everyone already knows, the biggest way to save gas is to lay off the gas pedal.
