3rd & 4th Generation (1992–1996 & 1997–2001)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 1992-1996 & 1997-2001
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
I've had it with the mod scene. 95% of the people are dishonest, will sell you junk, or steal your money so I call it quits. It's hard to find people who aren't trying to fuck you over, so I've decided that I need to put it all behind (with the exception of 2 people listed in my sig). I've been fucked over with countless amounts of dollars (about 10G's off the top of my head). My paint job $2500, blown camshafts $550, front bumper $500? - same guy refuses to give me my $300 back, Luis for my $4500, Allen for my $1300, so on so on. For every guy that fucked me over deserves a bullet in their head but once it has happened, there isnt much to do. Even my CC company doesn't want to refund my money evenn though I'm eligable for it because I fall under their strict guidelines. My car would've been turboed about 6 months ago but these drawbacks put me at a complete hault. I recently added up how much I spent, went to machine shops got price quotes, looked at my goals, looked at parts that will complete my project, considered my losses and it would take me another $7-10G's minus the loss suffered to complete the project and to have it done right to make some real numbers. It's not worth it. I realized that spending all the time and money on the car has no benefits and is too costly of a project, which at this point, looks like its never going to end. I've got a lot of important shit going on now like full time work, full time college, girlfriend, and I have a strong ambition to leave the U.S. and go back to Japan. I'm resenting the fact that I live in the U.S. now too, knowing that a lot of people here are liars and crooks. Biased? Nope. You just can't find anyone to trust these days and thats a fact. Besides all that, I've already put about $10G's on my car and I have no bank, considering I've almost had my job for almost 2 years. Pretty Sad. I just have ambitions and I'm not going to be stuck for the rest of my life because of my car. Anyway, I can rant for days on end about this but you guys get the point. I'm selling the turbo shit that I bought in the for sale section and it needs to go. Who knows when I'll show up again
Whoa. Sounds like a meltdown to me. Come to Canada...I've never been ripped off in 6 years of buying and selling parts and I've done my fair share. Calling 95% of people dishonest is an overstatement, it's just the people you are dealing with. But yea, a lot of people are out there to make a quick buck, I don't blame you for the way you feel
As for moving on, a lot of people do come to that realization. I did. I demodded my car, and simply bought a new car and did minor mods that cost next to nothing. Full time work, school, marriage and of course buying a house makes car modding the least important thing in life. I just don't understand how some people can live paycheck to paycheck paying off their car mods instead of enjoying other things in life. Like if you have to save up to pay for a $200 car mod, I'd say screw the mod and reassess your finances.
As for being screwed by the two TN members, not sure what can be done except to go through the normal legal course of action. Good luck.
and what did he say richie? besides the fact that hes a pussy

Well it turns out my long overdue piping is being made and some if it is sent out for fabrication, I'll see how it turns out. I set deadlines to receive the stuff because the I feel that I can contact mastercard, rather than my bank, to get my money back (if there 12 month gaurantee holds true) if I dont get the shit by the times I requested.
but also to the point is the fact that well...sometimes it just sucks to trust people too much. That's why you try and do everything yourself. Or take it to somewhere reputable instead of trying to save a buck or two.
For anything big for my car that I actually can't do....which isn't much these days short of a full rebuild...and even then, I wouldn't hesitate to tackle it if I had a spare lying around....I take it to a shop that's been around for awhile and can't run with my money.
It's nice to save some money sometimes and to help out some other people in the mod scene, but it's also not worth getting screwed out of thousands of dollars. If it's a coupel hundred- sure, take me money and run and I'll learn my lesson. Thousands? That's a tough lesson to learn and a bitter pill to swollow.
But hopefully this is just a down point for you. Now just let the good times roll again....modding isn't everything, but neither is money.
As well, if you're still in college full-time, then money's small anyway. wait until your graduate and then worry about money.

Looks like you just made some bad investments in people. There's just certain rules of the game that you follow. Reputation is everything. You wouldn't bid on an eBay auction from a seller with 0 feedback would you? Because that's what you pretty much did with Luis.
