3rd & 4th Generation (1992–1996 & 1997–2001)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 1992-1996 & 1997-2001
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
Well the other day I got a strut brace from a Celica and didn't know that Celica's (GEn 3) had 4WD and a 3S-G(T)E. I was thinking could the gearbox be mated to the 5S then get the rear axle from the Celica and get wheel spacers since the Celica is more narrow.
Ok I know I'll get shot down soon but I want to see if anyone has the knowledge. Of course there would have to be custom work I'm just don't know too much about Celica's so I'm asking don't flame me for a question.
Talk with Gino(2wickedtoys). He was the last person I heard off, attempting to do this modification. Just keep in mind, he never got to finish this project.
that seems like it would work but it wouldnt be a bolt-on sort of deal ... there would have to be minor custom jobs done here and there to have everything fitting smoothly, i believe...

1st off, you will either need a custom gas tank, or a fuel cell. The drive shaft "should" fit then where the exhaust currently is. You need the front AND rear subframes from another vehicle.
#1: Sportivo Concepts did a RWD Gen 3, but it was a piece together with misc shit. We now have a better idea what to do.
#2: Yes, Gino (2WickedToyz) was doing a 4WD setup on his '94 Camry, but shit happened, and the plans fell out.
#3: Don;t even try this with a 5SFE Engine. You think the car is slow now? You've not seen anything yet. Just wait till it;s 4WD.
I've been researching this, as I may do it when I have a lot of free money. I actually plan to take a look at some things this summer, to see the feasability of it, and for the ease of it. If you are SERIOUS in doing this, and have $5k, hit me on PM/AIM/MSN, and we'll discuse it.
Unless you have have $5k+, OR plan to do EVERYTHING yourself so there is no labor cost, your not doing it. You will be best with a 1MZ-FE for this. I've been researching it.....

5 Lug Corolla WHAT?
no, that means toyota wants more money by working with subaru- doubtful it has anything to do with an awd camry, but who knows...
Also, the only person that will EVER make an awd or rwd camry wont start by posting a thread- its going to be someone like tony the tiger- an engineer or something with the knowledge and the money. Theyll do it and THEN post a thread- its never going to happen and be reliable with a gen 3 camry, the newest one now is ten years old...
what about the ford ranger? that came in rwd! IT DOESNT MATTER... nothing is going to bolt up, and if it does, no one is ever going to do it. Thats my opinion.
