The shop added dye to the system to check for leaks. They asked you to wait a week to see if the system still worked (and held Freon). If the Freon is leaking out hopefully the area of the leak will now be visible for the shop to see (with ultraviolet light) and fix.
The above method is one way to check for leaks. A better way is to use a leak detector and check the system before recharging it completely. This saves on Freon R12 which is expensive and the customer coming back. Or the system is vacuumed, checked for leaks and recharged.
Does the A/C put out cold air, if not perhaps the Freon has leaked out again.
The A/C light flashing is an indication something is wrong with the system.
Take it back to the shop and have then look at it. They should have fixed whatever the problem was the first time and not had you come back. This is what I mean by being competent.
Assume the shop thought just replacing the Freon would do the job, this saves them time. In many cases it may work, but it appears this may not be the case for you.
As such, it is in their corner to fix the problem.
