3rd Generation E-brake adjustment

[1995 Camry LE w/ ABS - front & rear disc brakes]

is there any way to adjust the parking/handbrake? i have read about an adjustment cable, but i was told by a shop that it runs through the center of the body and isnt accessible...

i have to pull my handbrake all the way up to stop the car from rolling away, and i heard it should only take 3-4 clicks before it holds the car ...

i know there are a few posts about this, but i couldnt seem to figure out a definite answer for my setup

thnx

yup, but you have to remove your center console

then you can see where the middle collected cable comes into your handle (if you have a handle) then you just move the two screws down on the adjuster

but this may not solve your problem if your pads are really worn or totally done for

the e-brake can also be adjusted manually through the small hole in your rear discs- take a look at your haynes manual

well my car is at the shop now ... im getting my brake pads replaced and rotors either replaced or reground/surfaced depending on if they are thick enough ... im getting an oil change, etc. ... im getting my axle/CV Joint problem fixed ... and im getting an alignment [maybe new tires if they deem the wear bad enough]

so after that, we will know if i still need to adjust my e-brake ... if so, i guess ill havta check the haynes manual or figure out how the heck to bust thru the center console?

center console is easy

two bolts inside the holder area, and then two screws near the front where the shifter is (remove the trim around the shifter)

and then just yank it backwards to slide out the clips

I'd stay away from any shop that told you it was unadjustable. That's lying or plain stupidity.

they normally do good work ... the guy who i talked to just works the front desk - he knows a bit about cars, but not enough to be working there lol

however, i picked my car up today [or tried to] ... new rear discs & pads, resurfaced front discs ... still have to replace my tires ... they didnt find the problem w/ the cv joint (but i know its popping ... unless that sound is my strut mount, which would be a PITA)

but anyways, as soon as i used the brakes the ABS activated or something and gave me a big clunk [and i was going like 5mph, so i shouldnt be using the ABS yet] ... and voila, the ABS light comes on

so they f**k'd something up ... so i drove it back into the shop and told them to fix it by tomorrow

EDIT:

they didnt fix it ... said its coincidence, not their fault ... they said to take it to the dealership and have the Right Rear ABS sensor checked ... if the dealer says its their fault, then they will pay

this is such bs ... i wish i knew enough to work on my car
