3rd & 4th Generation (1992–1996 & 1997–2001)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 1992-1996 & 1997-2001
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
I have a 99 Camry V6 (XLE). Few days back there was a sudden noise in the exhaust. I thought it might be a leak and went to a local shop to get it fixed. It seems that I have to change the y pipe and the catalytic converter. They say I have a rough idle (which I do) because of that. The previous owner might have bumped it somewhere and it's constricted, which allows lesser air flow, heating the engine more. Can anyone suggest what I should do and what is the amount I have to shell out for the repairs? Can I drive the car for a few thousand miles without hurting the car?
Thanks
Ayan
unless its severly damaged (constricted), it should not cause ur idle to be rough, or cause the engine to overheat. if it is then id get it fixed pretty soon, but i would also get a sencond opinion from another shop if u can or look fo the damage urself, it would be pretty easy to see if its that bad. how many miles on the car? the idle may be an unrelated problem.
u may wanna try cleaning out the throttle body and see if that helps teh idle at all, that might be the cause. and id really advise chicking the exhaust for problems urself. like i said its fairly easy to see and unless u found an honest mechanic, ull prolly save ur self a bundle.
