New to me '95 ES300 - Question

Hey -

I'm primarily a VW guy, know ALOT about them, done plenty of complete teardowns and have no fear yanking an engine. But I'm about to get my Dad's old 95 ES. He was about to take no money on a trade for an 07 ES, so I bought it for the trade value. Car runs great, well maintained. 174k, looks like new.

Main question - is the 3.0V6 belt or chain for timing? I know he said whichever was replaced at 110k but just curious. On most VW's, bad things will happen when a belt lets go but chains usually give some audible warning.

I'll probably have more questions, thanks ahead for the resposnse!

it has a belt but its a non-interferance motor so if the timing belt goes the engine will just shut off but no damage will be done.

^ As big said.

I'd suggest doing the next waterpump/timing belt replacement at around 200k miles, as the last one was at 110k miles.

I'm under the impression that the 3.0L 3VZ-FE V6 is not a "non-interference motor."
Is that a correct impression?

Not sure on the 3VZ, but the 1MZ which he has is Non-Interference.
