USA Transmission Issues

1997 AVALON TRANSMISSION A541E. Had to have my transmission rebult a few months ago. I notice in the mornings that if i put it into drive immediately after starting it, it takes at least 5 seconds to move. The car is shifting into drive but not moving it feels like there no fluid in the torque converter and it has to build pressure before moving. It only happens when the car sits at least overnight as in like 10 hours plus. If u start it after sitting for an hour or 2 and put it immediately into drive, it runs fine. Also this problem is only for about 5 to 10 seconds after starting the car. if u start the car after being left overnight and let it sit for 10 secs before putting it into drive it works fine. BOTTOMLINE IS THETRANNYT WORKS FINE EXCEPT FOR 5-10 SECS AFTER THE CAR IS STARTED FIRST THING IN THE MORNING. It seems to be a very odd problem, I took it back to the place that rebuilt it and of course they couldnt reproduce the problem, they adjusted the valve body swapped fluid and filter and told me to bring it back if I had more problems. Any ideas from you guys, I know it's a long post but this is a weird problem. THANK IN ADVANCE!

I have been having the same problem with my 2000 Camry since it was a year old. The dealer was never able to duplicate this either... It now has 60,000 miles on it and it is still doing the same thing. I hope you have better success at getting it fixed than I have.

if it was rebuilt only a few months ago, it may still be under warranty. if so, bring it in. i know when i had a trans on a previous car rebuilt, they gave me a one year unlimited mileage warranty. of course it died again a month after the warranty expired.

Just bring it back and leave the car overnight. They should be able to duplicate the problem when the car is morning cold. You have a warranty. Let them deal with it. If they need to keep the car more than 1 day to fix this issue, ask them for a loaner or ask them to pay for a rental.

If under warranty as Mike says, don't bother working on it. Have the shop look at it, if it has a problem it is theirs not yours. Don't let it become yours by doing any work on the trains yourself.
