3rd Generation 9005 conversion burned by sockets~!

I have had blumeanie's conversion going for some time now and i just recently noticed a headlight out. when i checked it out, the socket was fried at one contact. the light was the same, naturally.

what went wrong?

I had mine in for a year before the bulbs died, and I did a LOT of nighttime driving at that time/ Probably 4-6k miles with the headlights on.

truth is, you need to upgrade harness or it will burn due to that extra 10W, that was why i didnt convert my bulbs because i knew it didnt seem right unless i upgraded the harness

did you use those shitty ebay 10000000w bulbs?

use real 60/65w (whatever the OEM 9005 is) and youi wont have a problem.

I think it has more to do with the socket itself and the way that the 9005 bulbs never fit properly even when modified in the 9006 sockets

I've melted both of my stock harnesses at the socket now, so I spliced in generic 9005 harnesses/sockets in its place. no problems for a good 3 years now even though the wiring itself is no better than the stock wiring.

Cool

You didn't seat the pins correctly & caused them to overheat.
Both sets of housings, harnesses, wiring, fuses, relay's etc. are rated for a 65w draw.

It would be better to wire the actual 9005 socket in. You can buy them for 5$ at Autozone.
