3rd Generation Best sub/amp placement in a gen 3?

I'm looking into mounting a couple of amps along with 2 subs (preferably 12's but I might go with 10's) in the back of my Camry. I want to have it setup so I'm left with as much trunk space as possible. I don't want to take my spare tire out for obvious reasons. Do any of you guys have any suggestions?

are you going to use fiberglass or just plain old mdf box? If its a plain mdx box jus go sealed and put it so it fits as close as possible to the shape of your trunk and move it to how you want the space to be

It'll just be a standard box, no fiberglass... not right now atleast. Any particular reason I should go with a sealed one as far as when it comes to saving space... are they smaller?

i suggest using truck boxes if ur tryin to save space. there designed to fit in tight spaces and are rarly more than 8 inches deep. also id just mount the amps on the back of the rear seat so u can have easy acess to adjust them if and when u need too.

the first system i put in my gen 3 was a crappyy one.. but was ok at the time and i didnt spend a arm and a leg on it...

the sub amp i mounted in the stock location of the factory one on my car and but the other amp i mounted under driver seat

i started out with some infinity 1030w 10" subs.. i had got like 4 of them for like 30-45 bucks each but only used 2

as for the box, it was sealed, a Q-logic sealed HATCH BACK box

http://i118.photobucket.com/albums/o...0/e454_1-1.jpg

i loved it cuz that box was so damn small it fits waay back in the truck where the back seats fold down
i actually got some L shape brackets and bolted the box to the top just under the 6x9s
so that when i drove like a crazy man the box wouldnt fly around in the back and hit the walls of the truck

but theres always those truck boxes... as BIGBIRD said.. but i dont think they work to good and are i think to expensive

i would mount the amps onto the back of the rear seats ... i have 2 friends who did this to their gen3 camry's and its worked out great ... as far as the box, its hard to save space with 2 subs ... no matter what its gonna take up some space ... 2 small single boxes [one on left, one on right] would clear up some space in the center rather than having 1 dual box in the middle

u might want to consider one 15"

Sealed boxes are much smaller than ported ones, and if you buy a prefabricated (store bought) box that is ported it is most likely going to be way too small for a ported sub and is expensive. Save yourself some money and make 2 small connected if you think thats the best space saver boxes and mount the amps to the back seats or if you're careful to the boxes themselves.

i would recomend a 10 and a 12 or 15. having subs is pointless if u cant catch all ranges of bass. a 10 will hit hard and do highs very well while a 12 or 15(if u really love the "deff by 30" sound) will hit the lows better. combining is more complicated but makes for an all around better sounding system. dont forget the cap...its a must.

what about cancellation though? If I personally redid my subs ( I have one ported 12") I would probably do 2 sealed 10's. Those would be pretty decently loud and have more punch and wouldnt take up the huge space my ported 12 does

Non size matching subs? I've never really considered that, but the theory sounds right. I'd like to hear more opinions on it. Right now what I'm looking into is getting two L5 12's and setting up one on each side of my trunk. Is it bad if they are firing directly at eachother? (across the trunk)

I would once again suggest that you dont use a prefab box but if you really arent willing to build one yourself or get one custom made and dont mind sacrificing the sound quality and performance of the sub then at least make sure you are getting it enough power

Hey Xet thats a Kcicker sub in a Kciker box, there will be no sacrifice of sound quality. Really though it would hit really hard to get on 12" L7 instead of two L5's, but Kicker will definetly do the job, finally someone is going Kicker. Get Kicker amps too.

many times manufacterer specs are a bit on the low side to better sell a product because not many people want to give up the bigger space required to use it closer to its full potential. but either way recommended ported size by kicker for a 12" l5 is 1.75 at least to 3.25 and just judging by the picture vs the size of my 2.33 box that thing doesnt look big enough.

But either way if you haven't gotten use to a really nice setup you probably wont be too disappointed by those prefabs. Just get thsoe 2 if you dont want to build one yourself and get one amp that runs like 1.2k wrms at least and wire them both up

ive never liked the sound of cars with different sized subs ... my friend actually has 2 10"s and 2 15"s in his truck and it drives me nuts because its almost too much bass

i prefer the subs to take the lows, and get some speakers that can do the rest ... but thats jmo

Yeah I figured that if I went with the Kicker "combo" it'd be a great sub/enclosure match. How do you guys think one L7 would compare to the 2 L5's? Having only one sub would obviously allow me to save space, one of my goals.
