3rd & 4th Generation (1992–1996 & 1997–2001)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 1992-1996 & 1997-2001
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
tirerack.com has a conversion/upgrade section. I took the boyracer wheels off my gen 3.5 and replaced them with the OEM size because of ride quality and MPGs. I found a set of rims on EBay off of a 02 Solara and they look great.RB
with the 205/65 15 you have:
5.2" of sidewall
12.7" radius
80.1" circumference
and ~791 revs/mile
with the 195/55 15 you have:
4.2" of sidewall
11.7" radius
73.7" circumference
and ~860 revs/mile
so basically the 195/55 15 is a smaller tire ... you will have more visible space in the wheel well ... but it will be closer to OEM, so the speedometer will be closer to correct values
now a 195/75 14 would be about the same size, if you could find one ...

The stock tire size IS 205/65/15
It would be a RETARDED idea to go with 195/55/15. Why would you want to go with a tire that has a smaller width/Less traction???

i just got Sumitomo HTR H4's ... they were definitely not expensive, and they have been great so far [they have lots of great reviews on tirerack.com] ... my second choice would be Yokohama Avid's

with 195/55, your speedo will be EXTREAMLY off. Handlind would go down too. you should really go with 205 or 215 if you have a V6. I have 205/55/16 for my car. If it was 205/60/15, you could get away with it. But don;t even bother with a 195/55/15. The money savings is just not worth it.

www.tirerack.com gives you a pretty good idea of what your options are ... but of course if you want to get them in a store, your choices will be somewhat limited

one reason to go smaller width is for fuel effeciency.

**ADAM! A/C button for Gen 5.5 Camry (2005 LE) !! Por favor!
Brake lights aren't broken, I just don't brake.
--Can honestly go to a parts counter and ask for brake shoes for the front brakes.
--Likes long walks on the beach.... once it's lit by a massive bonfire.
keep ur tires inflated correctly and im sure the smaller tire size would contribute little to fuel economy. but ur stock handling characteristics will be changed a little as well, prolly not for the better.
Thanks for the advice guys
i could pick up 4 195 55 15 michelins for $100 cad that has almost 90%
thats why i was asking... now im second guessing
195/55/15? Tell that to the gen 6-8 Corolla guys.
(This is the proper +1 size for us. Not for any Camry)
