CV joints or axles would give you a clicking sound and usually while making turns under speed. The rubbing sound you are describing sounds very generic. Can you be more specific as to where it is coming from and exactly what it sounds like? Does it sound like something rubbing against something else (lower pitched) or higher pitched like a squeal / whine/ is it constant / does anything make it worse or better?

When sitting still and turning the wheel, my 94 makes a light popping sound... Pretty sure it's related to the strut bearing/mount. Noise is less when warm outside, and worse when cold.

If moving, as mentioned it could be the CV joint popping because the boot was ripped, and there is no more grease to lube the joint.

More info would be helpful.

Nope the noise that your refering to is the same exact noise i have on mine if u put ur car up on a hoise and hold one side of the wheel and turn it u will see that the rubber that ur sprigs sits on is turning as well right between the strut and the sprig at the front right where ur spring sits on ur strut check both sides and u wil see for your self.

i hear it mostly when the engine on and the car is parked. it sounds like it is coming from where the steeringwheel comes out to the engine and it has a joint there where it is moving when you turn the steering wheel. it is a kinda cracking sound.that's the best i can describe it.
