Squeaky Steering Wheel

What causes the squeaky steering wheel and how do you get rid of it? I'm hoping many of you know what I'm talking about. I've heard it in other Camry's as well. I have a 2000 and when I turn the wheel, right or left, it makes an odd, dull, squeaking noise that sounds like the ghost of Charlie Brown's teacher is speaking to you through the wheel. Drive's me and my wife nuts...
