1mz fe passenger cv axle removal

Hey all,
good to be a part of my second toyota forum (1st being celicasupra.com). I've found alot of great helps on here. I have a 98 camry xle 1mz fe. I'm replacing the engine..all that's left for me to do in order to pull it is unbolt the mounts and remove the passenger side cv axle--it won't budge from the tranny. I read on older models on here that it can be stuck and you have to pry it off, which I've tried but with no luck. Any help is appreciated. This is my first FWD engine replacement/pull/swap. The supra was alot less of a pain, but all in all, great learning experiences!

when I changed my Drivers side ('96 V6, same tranny), I had to use a slide hammer to get it out. Took one hit, and poped right out.

Is the PS axle the one with the center support bearing?

Well you're probably better off doing it that way. I spent 2 hours of sweat, swearing, and PB Blaster to get my PS axle out. The center bearing was seized in the carrier. Make sure you use some anti seize on it when re-installing.

Said I gotta watch the splines when removing and installing and put somethin' on there when reinstalling it to prevent that from happenin' again. I just want this done! Everyone, pray that it's done this weekend!!!! lol I'll try n' keep everyone posted till the new motor's in.

I'm curious, did you have to replace your cv axle? If so, how much did that run you and did you go to the dealer for it?

No, I was just replacing the axle seal. I would recommend you do the same while the axle's out. Cheap insurance. Use Toyo seals.

Thanks, that's good to know. I'm hopin' to be done with this project by the end of this weekend..God willing. I've learned not to boast about tomorrow, whenever I say I'm gonna be done with something the next day I find I was horribly mistaken (i.e., cv axle didn't want to come out as planned). I'll keep y'all updated and for those with questions on this project for personal use I'd love to be able to help with any questions.

So we pulled the motor this mornin' (Hallelujah, thank ya Jesus, praise the Lord)! My dad managed to get the cv axle to pull out of the joint -- Gonna get two new cv axles Monday along with new cam seals, new exhaust gaskets, and...I think that's it (have everything else new already). Tomorrow I'm gonna bolt the tranny back up to the donor motor and put the old intake back on (donor motor is JDM and the egr is blocked off), put the new water pump on and new pulley's on. Anyone have any suggestions or questions hit me up--will keep y'all updated.
