Recomendations on cone filter for my CAI

Ok I've got a 99 le v6 with an Injen SRI and bought an extension from a member on solaraguy that will make it into a CAI. I was going to replace the filter with an open flow unit from K&N (style that flows through the top in addition to the sides. I'm looking at part #s RX-4870 which is 2.75 in. diamter but overall the filter area seems to be a bit more than the injen and longer and the k&n r-3003 which is 3'' diamter but otherwise seems close to the Injen dimensions. Which unit should I go with? Right now I'm leaning towards the RX-4870

Have you looked into AEM Dry Flow filters? No oil to mess with, but you still need to wash them out once in a while.

I may consider one if I can find one that will fit. Guess I'll try to navigate the site and see what I come up with

Also, I just realized the AEM isnnt open flow at the top, so wondering if it'd serve any gain as opposed to the open top k&n. hmmm

Unless you have mod'ed the engine to flow a lot more fuel/air K&N and aftermarket CAI will not give any HP gain. If there is a small gain look at the HP/RPM chart to see where any HP will occur, I bet it will be a narrow band on the top end. As well if the cone filter sits inside the engine compartment you will loose the CAI advantage. Stock engines do not need any more air flow than that provided by the CAI stock paper filter system. Aftermarket looks cool, that's about all.

Filter will be located outside of engine bay as it will be CAI in a few hours. And when I did install the short ram I could actually feel a gain esp in the top end, and that was with my friend's fat ass in the car too. Hell, Glok managed a 14.7 with just a short ram, springs, and a short shifter

I've learned that butt dynos are more about preception than actual HP gain. Have fun.

Ya, people said the same thing when I put a CAI on my crx and yet I was the only stock d16 equipped crx si in the area that could run quicker than a low 16. Oh, and got the extension on today and top end pulls even harder now.
