After some thinking and tinkering with spraypaint, i give you this:
painted and clearcoated side moldings.
it was easier than expected but slightly a messy job. btw, the white spots are the flash and light hitting it, the actual moldings are fully black with no runs or missed spots.
a profile shot:
lemme know what you think, i'll write up a diy if people show interest. Big thanks to curry for advice on molding removal!

hmm...thats actually not too bad, i agree with venom, u need some more black on there...ya know i just happen to be selling a black rear CAMRY pannel pm me if ur interested.
the car really needs more black now. my next thing is to paint the mirrors and *maybe* the door handles.
either way, they had to be repainted because they were damn scuffed from other cars hitting the doors and i rubbed a pole once (bad day, don't ask) so i figured i'd be different for a bit.
however, i like the black on white because it gives a euro look to it, just slightly. ever notice how many euro domestic vehicles have the black molding instead of the us cars?

It looks like you did a good job doing it but like a couple of other guys I'm not feeling the black, to me it kinda makes it look cheap, idk. It's your car man, if you like it, roll with it.
personally i wouldnt paint the mirriors or the handles. the dx(base) models and se(not handles) models were like that and the SE can only pull it off cuz if the bright red color. if ur gonna black stuff out id do the grille, maby headlights, that rear pannel, and emblems.

sitting in the hot california summer sun that morning, the tape was easy to take off, really. along the molding there's a few studs/pins that go into the door. however, they're not clips or anything, just studs into holes. reapplying them is a bitch since you want to remove all the old tape off them and off the door.
to put 'em back on, i used 3m double sided tape from Kragen's. Like 4 bucks for a long roll, more than enough for all molding on the car, and then some more.
