3rd Generation Somender Singh "The Groove"

I read an article about 18months ago in a Popular Science magazine about an Indian mechanic cutting small grooves into the "squish" area of cylinder heads to increase overall performance and gas mileage by making the fuel burn more efficient. I'd since forgotten about it until i stumbled across his website a couple of weeks ago. I've found a couple of toyota owners on his site that have done the modification with great success. I'm very interested to try this to my 93 XLE V6, which is of course the 3vz-fe motor. I was wondering if anyone else has done this modification, and with what kind of results. I searched the forum for any posts but had no luck.

there are cylinders that have grooved/curved heads rather than flat heads for this reason ... i cant think of any specifics off the top of my head, but it shouldnt be too hard to find what companies do this and why

I remember reading an article about him and his research in a popular mechanics a few years ago. The thing is the only Toyota engines that have any room for a groovs are the SOHC, not the DOHC like our 3vz-fe. If you notice most of the combustion chamber is filled with valves!

Here is a link to a 1nz-fe thread asking about grooves http://www.mpgresearch.com/viewtopic.php?t=1178

3rd Generation

Are there any other fuel saving mods that 3vz-fe owners have actually seen results from. I love my camry as i'm on my second one but having the larger motor and living in the city is not helping my gas mileage. I currently get about 18.4mpg in town which is exactly what was on the window sticker from Toyota. I know everyone has seen the thousands of cheap ass gimmicks that don't work and end up harming you engine, so if anyone has found any good, working!! fuel savers please let me know.
