4th Generation Electrical problem with the lights

The rear tailight malfunction waring indicator lamp has been coming on for alittle while now. It comes on when I start the car and when I turn the headlamps/parking lights on the lights stay on even after turning the car off. I have to remove the negative on the battery to turn them off. I replaced the burnt out lights as per the owners manual and the indicator light still appears. Has anyone had this problem before? Or know what could solve this problem? Thank you for your time.

Likely you have a electrical short with the wires going on the hinge of your rear trunk lid. I am positive that your backup lights are not coming on. Put the car in Reverse and ask someone to check whether the backup lights are lighting up.

I'm thinking it could be a short or relay is bad cuz I keep hearing a loud click when I turn on the parking/headlights not by pressing the brake or putting it in reverse. I have checked out the backup lights and they are fine. Thanks. David

I agree the problem is probably in the loom of wires in the trunk, by the driver's side trunk hinge. This is a common problem area for most Camrys. The wires in that loom are subjected to a lot of flexing, due to the constant opening and closing of the trunk. Eventually, some of the wires inside just break. Open up that loom of wires and check for broken and frayed wires. Repair as necessary and your problem will probably be gone.

I've checked the wires near the trunk and all are well. I did start tracing all the wiring in the rear for breaks and such. I found on the right rear combo tail light that the wiring and connectors were completely different from the left side. Looked as though it was replace due to damage to the rear and tail light. I'm gonna try to rewire it accordingly.

Wow you're a genius thats exactly my problem but my rear bulb manfulction light stays on once i press my brake pedal. I asked my friend before if the reverse lights worked whiling i was in R position he said no and the bulbs weren't burned out. Many said it was the set of wires by the trunk hinge..its really tight wrapped in this black tube, any ideas on how to loosen it?
