Okay seriously, what do I have to do to make the battery light go away? This thing is driving me nuts... I fixed the short in the gauge cluster and got the car running really well, but my battery was dead from the car sitting for too long. Charged it and it would start fine but be dead again later, so I decided I just needed a new battery...
I threw the new battery in just now and the battery light is still on... drove it around the block a few times, still on. Do I just need to keep driving it to let the altenator charge the new battery and to make the light go out? It seems like it would go away with a brand new battery in there... anyone else ever experience this?
With any luck this will be my last thread in the gen 3 section
...I think if someone gives him the answer, he'll be more inclined to stay
Hey dude, try to check your voltage first. If your voltage indicates that it's charging but you're seeing the charge light, chances are that the diode in the alternator that sets off the charge light is bad. I would never have thought of it, but I had a similar problem after I put the JDM headlights in my Camry. I didn't think and I tied in my grounds for my high and low beams. Not only did it keep my high beam light on in the dash but it also backfed my grounds and after about a month I noticed that my charge light was on at all times. Even though my alternator was charging my battery (14v) when I took it off and had it bench tested, it failed.
Since I installed a couple of relays and replaced the alternator, no charge light and my lights are brighter and no dash light malfunctions
So, if you're pretty sure it's not wiring and the battery is good, yank off that alternator and let someone check it.
