Throtle sticks - high RPMs

The throtle on my 92 Camry V6 sticks when I step on the gas. If I go under the hood and race the throtle with my hand, it returns to 900 rpm, but when I step on the gas pedal, it won't return to low rpms. It just keeps reving at 3000rpms. I sprayed the throtle cable and linkage with WD 40 but no change. Where could it be sticking and why?

Try cleaning the throttle body and butter fly valve with TB cleaner. Wipe it down and scrub it with an old tooth brush.

Lubricating the throttle cable doesn't work very well and it'll probably get worse since you sprayed WD-40 all over it.

I have to agree with touringcamry on this. Your symptoms sound like the classic case of a dirty throttle body. If you do not know how to clean it do a search on this forum for "throttle body cleaning". It has been covered numerous times and there are some threads with pictures on how to do it.

Thanks for your suggestions. I'll try your suggestions about the TB. If it is the the throttle body, why doesn't it stick when I pull the cable from under the hood?
