Exclamation Oil Viscocity/ Gas Mileage

Ok so i've been searching through old posts recently reading a lot about supposed mpg improvers. Obviously most of them are shit, however i read an interesting article that claims that using a heavier weight oil is going to reduce engine friction and actually provide better gas mileage. I've always been under the impression that a very heavy weight oil would actually slow the engine down. I was just wondering if anyone else had come across this. Here the link to the article: http://www.lubedev.com/smartgas/quickies.htm

Thoughts?? . . . . . .

Well it might be true. I'm successfully using Mobil Synthetic 10W30 (High mileage formula) at winter temperatures. I had no problem to start car at -30C many times with that oil on my Camry 92 V6 (However dillership mechanic told me that I'll be not able even move out with such oil at -10C and I must use none synthertic 5W30 during winter) .. and I cannot complain about MPG because it actually at least 10% better that spec for new car (92 V6) what might be due many different reasons not just an oil ( i.e synthetic ATF, K&N air filter and so on ).
To regarding article I've also noticed about 10% - 20% MPG downgrade when it gets to Ethanol enriched fuel. Basically I was writing it off due to old model of car that I'm driving that not taking ethanol rally well.

Cool

What? No... The lighter the oil weight the less friction. duh
If you just need another half a mpg and afe more horsepower you can flush your oil & then use a high quality 5w-20. 5w-20 m1 synthetic ftw.

NEVER run ethanol, that stuff won't jsut cause harm to your engine & SIGNIFIGANTLY (30%) reduction in power & economy, but it's fucking communist I swear to god.

Plus that guy advocating straight 40 weight, or 20w's is a god damned moron. The ungodly majority of engine cylinder / ring wear comes within the first 20 minutes of start-up. Run a 5w based oil regardless of climate.
Thicker oil improves mileage... What a fucking retard!? The only time THAT would happen is if you've blown your rings to hell (obviously from your STUPID ASS choice in lubrication), and using very thick oil is the only way you can maintain any kind of descent compression.

Leave (5w)-40, and (5w)-50 oils for people running a turbo.

IMO half that page is completely stupid.

i run 10W-30 cos i live in california and it never gets too cold.

it does lower mpg a very subjective tad, but i have some oil seepage problems that seem to stop with the 10W oil . Anyways always stay within the range specified. My manual says i can use 5w or 10w so i'm in the clear.
