3rd & 4th Generation (1992–1996 & 1997–2001)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 1992-1996 & 1997-2001
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
Well most cars now a days have a button on their remote to pop open the trunk for easy access instead of the key in and open. So, my remote has 2 buttons. Top one to unlock and lock the car while the 2nd one is nothing atm. I was wondering if its easy to do a DIY on how to program your remote to be able to open the trunk? or is it to complicated?
Thanks

not sure how it is on the 4th gen but it's pretty much pointless on the 3rd gen.
the trunk release inside the cabin is mechanical, you pull the corl which pops the trunk up and there is nothing electrical involved. in order to do what you are asking about, you will need to route an electrical release to your trunk and after that, program it to run with the remote.

The Gen 5 and newer Camrys use 4 button remotes, one of which is dedicated to releasing the trunk. You will need to add a trunk release solenoid and run wire for it. I don't know if the keyless control system has any auxiliary output to operate the trunk release.
One thing I noticed was that the Gen 5 remotes have the same FCC ID as the Gen 4 remotes but I've never tried switching the remotes before.
You mean you can like actually take the key and use that to open the trunk? WooooooW!!!
Im talking about the lever under the seat. Im not a car expert, but I assumed it wouldn't be possible to open it elecronically if there was a lever instead of a regular button. Then again I suck in cars and Im still learning. So take it easy on me
dpanda88,
I think it is possible to hook up the remote trunk with the auxilary button on your remote. But first you have to find out which wire is the auxilary wire. Hooking the system up is no problem, however, identifying the wire takes patience and time. I have not done it yet, but have been researching about it. I cannot find the time to play around with it.

its fairly simple, all you need is a solenoid, ive got one on my car
