360 miles on a full tank of camry 1996, average or above average?
Hi everyone, I own a 1996 XLI 2.2 liter 4-cylinder in-line twin cam. I've been reseting my trip meter for about a year now everytime I fill up my tank. On average if I don't kick down it gives me about 360 miles for a full tank. Is that normal for such a model? Im not complaining, infact Im really impressed. Most of my friends Japanese cars gives them about a max of 250 on a full tank. Need some opinions on how much a 2007 4 cylinder camry does on a full tank and if 360 miles for my car is average or above average.
That's actually very good. It largely depends on the way you drive it, proper tire inflation, air conditioning usage and such. But an average of 360miles to a tank for the 2.2L Camry is pretty impressive.
Hey EchoHolik, thanks for the reply. I had a feeling it was pretty good cause everytime I asked people around me if 360 miles is normal, they'de give me this shocked look on there face and not believe me, god bless my car. My parents don't mind helping me finance a brand new 2007 or 2008 one, but I love my baby I got right now and I wouldn't trade it or give it away unless it really starts being a real pain in my ass and starts costing me over 1000-1500k for pointless shit. One day I had to drive back and forth for about 125 miles none stop on a steady speed of about 75 miles per hour, and I was shocked to see that it gave me about 430 miles on that full tank! no joke! I was really impressed back then. I probably assumed it was cause of the steady speed I took for such a long distance.
I have a 97 with a 4cyl. I drove until the fuel light came on and filled up today. I got 449 miles on that tankful and 419 the previous one but filled up before the fuel light came on.
Are you measuring by how many gallons you pump when you fill your tank up? A better estimate would be to next time you go to pump gas, zero out your trip meter and the next time you go to fill up, divide the distance by gallons pumped. The reason I say that is because fuel guages aren't always 100% accurate and I would never want anyone to see how much they could get on a tank of gas by going until it goes to Empty (or at least the light comes on)
I know the last time I pumped gas, I had went 295 miles and it stopped at 13 gallons at the pump (I think our tanks hold 18 or 18.5) and my guage was at 3/4 empty. But when you do the math 295/18 equals 22.7 mpg, which isn't as much as I had hoped for, but it's better than my other vehicle these days.

I do that also. The last 2 times I got 28 and 29 mpg. Mostly highway miles with a/c on @70-80 mph.

I do about half city/half highway, so I don't expect that good milage, but I was hoping closer to 24-25 mpg. I'm taking the car on a 400 mile round trip in a few weeks, so I'll get to see how it'll do then.

Hey Renmike, to be honest I never got a chance to do the math. But when I fill up, it always costs me about $22 for a full tank, and when I look at how much gallons I've bought, its always 11 and a bit. Although in my manual it says my car can hold 14 gallons.
Cardinal, 450 on a full tank is beautiful. I think I might be able make mine reach no more than 380 if my a/c is turned off the whole time and I take it easy on the pedal.
