Question 94 Driver side axle replacement question

I bought an axle from Auto Zone - it does not include the spline end that goes into the transaxle - should I just separate the axle at inner CV with the 6 allen head bolts and leave the spline in the trans? It seems like that would be the easiest way by looking at it. Or does the spline have to come out of the trans to be able to assemble the inner CV joint?

I seems like I have enough room to get the axle out by just disconnecting the strut and swinging the spindle down.

94 Wagon V6

Any feedback appreciated.

Bump.............anybody??

Trying to figure out if you can separate the driver side axle at the inner CV joint with it in the car still? Remove the 6 allen head bolts - repack the new CV/axle, and install?? Or, is it much easier just to pull the axle out and do it on the bench?

3rd Generation

I've heard of people doing what you said, leaving the piece in the transmission and just greasing and installing the rest of the axle, but I have never done it before. Sorry, wish I could be of better assistance. Is that the only type of axle they offer for sale? I can get the complete axle here.

Axle

Yes, its all they had in stock anyway. I think I will try and split the CV while on the car and see what happens.
