EGR 402 code, help

I have a 1999 Camry LE V6. Yesterday I took it to my mechanic because I have the engine light on and have to pass the smag test. He found code 402, 1410 and 1411. He replaced the VSV (90910-12174), cleaned the EGR valve and pipe and everything was good for one hour. Now code 402 is back. Any idea what could be the problem so I can go back and compare with what he will tell me?
Thank you in advance.

A code P0402 most likely means one or more of the following has happened:
  • The DPFE (differential pressure) sensor is faulty and needs to be replaced
  • There is a blockage in the EGR (most likely carbon buildup)
  • The EGR valve is faulty
  • The EGR valve may not be opening due to a lack of vaccuum
With a P0402, it is common for people to replace the EGR valve, only to have the problem return. The most likely solution is to replace the DPFE sensor.
  • Check the voltage at the DPFE sensor both at idle and when the EGR is open
  • Replace the DPFE sensor
i dont know if that applies to Camry's because ive never had a CEL, but hopefully that will point you in the right direction

P0402 is excessive EGR flow detected. Does the car run rough at times? The EGR valve sticking partially open at times could cause that. Another possibility is the EGR position sensor sending the wrong signal to the cars computer. The position sensor is built into the EGR valve on your car. Tho that should be easy to detect if he has a decent scanner.

DPFE is what Ford uses to detect EGR operation. Same end result as a possition sensor but a different way to monitor the EGR flow. Was a very common part that went bad on fords, even after they "improved" it.

I don't think the Camry use a DPFE from what I read on the internet.
Thank you anyways.

Codes 1410 and 1411 have to do with the EGR position sensor circuit.

0402 can mean excessive EGR valve lift (and excess EGR). One cause can be the position sensor.

Suggest taking the car back to the mechanic, the codes may all be related to the same problem, which may not have been fixed completely
