3rd & 4th Generation (1992–1996 & 1997–2001)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 1992-1996 & 1997-2001
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
I have a 1996 camry le and want to give it that dual exhaust look. I'm thinking about going to Meineke to get it done in the hopes it will give it that deep, aggressive exhaust tone, even if I end up losing a little horsepower. What do you think? Will it give it a louder, deeper more aggressive tone? I already have a muffler on it but I want the car to be even louder with a full custom performance dual exhaust. Any advice is appreciated. Thanks.
First of all what kind of engine do you have i've had both the 5sfe and 3vz-fe and they are both capable of a loud deep exhaust note if that is what you desire. When i bought the camry i have now (3vz-fe) it had dual straight pipes out the back. They of course weren't true duals, still using factory y-pipe. However it was very deep and very loud during normal driving. I admit it sounded like a badass racecar under heavy acceleration. However, after a while it drove me insane with the exhaust drowning out the stereo (at low volume), so i put a cresedda muffler on the car now it is quiet and pleasant to ride in but the cresedda muffler is like 20lbs lighter. Anyway i digress, the guy i bought the car off of said he paid like $250 for some guy to fab up the pipes, i'm pretty sure it did make a difference during heavy acceleration but, it wasn't anything complicated, whatever you decide to do i would recommend that you keep a resonator (inline between the cat and the muffler). Otherwise it will sound like one of those civics customizied at autozone
it really all depends on what all ur changing. if u just have a muffler welded into the stock pipes then if u get a larger diameter tubing for the Y-pipe then it will be a little louder. it also depends on which kind of muffler u go to. if u give us the specifics of the job u want to perform we can more accuratly advise on what the tone might end up like. and id keep the res too
they are still there they just show through the paint, although i'm told they aren't very bright at all, i would like to get one of the newer pieces from a gen 3.5.
trajjic, dont u have the V6, that thing has no problem sounding deep but the I4 needs a little more help. though ive seen duals deepen the sound of a 4cy simply because the exhaust is moving slower and the sound waves are getting split up.
do this, PM megamac, he has duals on his 5s and it sounds great. i just dont know what his setup is.
