3rd & 4th Generation (1992–1996 & 1997–2001)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 1992-1996 & 1997-2001
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
difference the 1mzfe in the solara v6 and the 1mzfe v6 in the camry
the reason why i aked this question is because i wanna do the swap and i found out that the solara 199 to 2001 have the same motor as my 94 camry coupe so i was wondering if i can jsut use the trannay jack shaft and other stuff that i need to do my swap
as far as i know the differances are 1. the ecu's arent the same and 2. i think the 99+ 1mz has vvt. but mounts should be the same. ive been considering a similar swap.
There are alot of differances, it's simply the same basic engine block, heads, sensors, etc.
The biggest differance is the manifolds, and the Solara's addition of vvt-i before the camry's. (along with all the other minor emessions changes)

also completely different fuel delivery systems. (thanks for the reminder curry lol!) through 96 is return. 97+ is returnless. yadda yadda yadda
bigbird, i wouldn't contemplate it unless you have a good hookup on the engine, ECU & wiring, and your current one is on it's deathbed. The BEAMS 1mz-fe only made like 30hp more than the original using the original SAE ratings.

LOL. And to think I almost bought 3vz fuel rails...

Ya, sometimes things fall out one side when you put something else in. It's the returnless ones that need fuel rails.

so will you be able to use the tranny and the axels and make a resister box or no that out of the question
no, you will have to swap the ecu and wiring as well (I'm pretty sure about the wiring, but not 100%) since there are things that are controlled differently between the different versions of the 1mz's
for example: ignition, a/c idle up, etc.

yeah, i should have said "had" considered it. ive asked around and my reason for doing it was the precieved ease of install if i went S/C but king schooled me otherwise.
^ well, it's not THAT bad...just be prepared to do lots of prep work...
LOTS more potential from getting the s/c than a swap to another 1mz
let me finally finish my 5-speed swap and then I'll let you know....but I think that a 5-speed swap would be the best thing for our cars without going FI

I think he meant swapping 1mz's to swap to the blahcharger.
You can put the blahcharger on your current engine. It'd probably be an assload safer stock on it too, seeing how you can put a much more aggressive FMU & pump on your car.
Blahcharger fits on all. It's been put on two 3vz-fe's since I've been around. One long-gone ES 300, and one 3vz-ef MR2 swap.
