3rd & 4th Generation (1992–1996 & 1997–2001)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 1992-1996 & 1997-2001
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
Just some random brain fart when I was daydreaming the other day.
How hard would it be to mate the new 6sp(or was it 5sp? I forgot) from the new V6 Camry onto the 3VZ/1MZ?
I was thinking about the new tranny because the new engine has 269hp stock, which means it can take on most of these turbo Gen3/4's fairly easily for those are are lazy about shifting. And its got that +/- thing going on and more gears to boot.
Yeah I like driving automatic, I'm a lazy asshole
PS: if I get a new car, its definitely going to be manual though.
I dont think the ECU would work with it... Not sure tho just a stab in the dark.

doesn't the tranny have a separate ecu and harness, couldn't you just take those from the donor car? As far as matching up with the engines i have no idea although it would be a really unique mod.
EvoFire - the old A54x series can easily handle 280-320bhp with good fluid a cooler & valve body upgrade. Look at Tony, When the transmission was built correctly, it can handle over 700bhp.
They also have 0 problems. All the newer F transmissions since the 5-speed have had problems.

if i understand it correctly, the valves are what control when, how fast and how hard the tranny shifts. upgrading that will allow u to put more power through the tranny. if ur lookin for the shifting ablilty u can always go with a ratchet shifter, thats basically what it does.
Eh I don't keep up on this forum, but not true on the ES 350 forums. Always people with problems evena fter the new flashes.
Just get an old 4-speed and build a controller. They're cheap, 100% reliable & terribly basic 540's have three solenoids... Food for thought lol!
Otherwise you'll have a $2000 lazy 6 speed transmission $2000 dropped in a 540 will get you a torque converter, shfter, valve body & fluid/cooler upgrades.

Regardless, it's a totally different engine family.
Unless you make a custom bellhousing it wont' bolt up.
And then you have to make the torque converter mate to the flex plate....
You'll probably need to make hybrid axles too.
Plus it mounts in a cradle, not to the chassis up top.
